Madness​

the words drip from my mouth,

juice of a ripe fruit,

sticky, sweet, and clinging to my tongue: 

do you want a taste?

for being here with me

for grappling with the roly poly citruses,

the tumbling blueberries,

the rogue wrinkly peach we forgot in the back of the refrigerator 

and replace with the new
our hands fuzzy with their cheeky stubble
you fold the bag, for later use
and we contemplate what to do with our
overflowing bounty

            offered in a casual, untroubled way 

as I set down a plate, a drink, on 

the table you spread
with sunset hue wildflowers

​

 

Thank You
            murmured into your neck,

arms wrapped around your waist 

while your hands

work away in the soapy basin,
a flurry of tidying

to hasten the coming of night 

for lit candles, and
delicate reverie

​

            the words savored,

heady and inviting, 

on dark cherry lips: 

an invitation
to delicious madness
