Still Life
Orange, yellow, blue and white,
A pleasing palette,
So carefully composed.
At the window, you watch, you wait,
In your silken gown,
For him

Patricia Denn
Patricia Denn has been painting in watercolor for the last 24 years. After retiring from a long career in higher education, she started experimenting with other media, namely gouache and oils. Early on she was impressed by the variety and range of watercolor and how it rewards the use of thick, vibrant color as well as delicate, transparent washes. She is fascinated by — and particularly interested in — how light and shadow help to define the unique identity of place.
While enjoying the variety of effects of other media, watercolor continues to be as challenging and rewarding as it has been from the start. Her subjects include city and landscapes, still lives, florals, architectural subjects, and occasionally, portraits and figure studies. Architectural subjects have been of particular interest. Foreign travel has provided many subjects and much inspiration for her work.
