About the Creators
Patricia Denn
Patricia Denn has been painting in watercolor for the last 24 years. After retiring from a long career in higher education, she started experimenting with other media, namely gouache and oils. Early on she was impressed by the variety and range of watercolor and how it rewards the use of thick, vibrant color as well as delicate, transparent washes. She is fascinated by — and particularly interested in — how light and shadow help to define the unique identity
of place. While enjoying the variety of effects of other media, watercolor continues to be as challenging and rewarding as it has been from the start. Her subjects include city and landscapes, still lives, florals, architectural subjects, and occasionally, portraits and figure studies. Architectural subjects have been of particular interest. Foreign travel has provided many subjects and much inspiration for her work.
Amanda Skinner
Amanda “Brooks” Skinner is a visual artist and arts educator based in Ipswich, Massachusetts. Originally from Kentucky, she works primarily in painting and is currently focused on themes of beauty, control, and chaos, explored through her ongoing Breached series and an upcoming racehorse series planned for fall. Amanda holds a Master of Arts in Teaching Art Education from Salem State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Transylvania University. With a background in museum education, she has worked with institutions including the Peabody Essex Museum, Historic New England, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She is drawn to work that disrupts gently—art that invites curiosity and starts a conversation. Amanda maintains a studio at Gallows Hill Artist Studios in Salem and exhibits her work throughout New England.
