Rush Hour

Training
The wait
Turn backward to avoid a sudden burst of cold wind from a mass of approaching metal
A welcome table seat
An occasional glance up from the virtual world
Some work, some gaze without focus
Most are alone, but physically close to many
Occasional coughs increasing in the winter
Early standers push to the door and out the narrow funnel
A bouquet of scents
Coffee, baked bread, and burned brakes
Try to calmly pass someone with an awkward and unpredictable gait
Fake greetings from religiously optimistic mannequins
Busking talent entertains the backs of many
Wait for the next transport
Then run and push to new funnel in
Sit, or stand, in a sardine can
Eyes fixed on shining screens
Avoiding those near by
Someone is reading a book
Another is sleeping
Flow out
Keep pace
In the race
Later repeat
Until fast motion seems still
