About the Creators

Sam Hamlin

Sam Hamlin is a retired third grade teacher who has painted for many years.  He began his painting life in 1987, working with Ruth Fransen of Hamilton and Betty Lou Schlemm of Rockport.  These two exceptional teachers and painters supported and encouraged him for many years before their deaths.  He thinks of them each time he picks up a brush.

Mary Woodall-Jappe

Mary Woodall-Jappe has returned to a childhood fascination with colored glass after a career in biomedical research. She loves working with glass, a medium that offers almost limitless possibilities. After learning some basic techniques with blown glass, she was captivated by the less well known techniques of kiln-formed fused glass. After a bit of formal instruction, she got a kiln and started experimenting, and has never looked back. Mary has exhibited pieces at numerous local venues, including fundraiser art shows for Montserrat College of Art, Essex County Greenbelt, and the Ipswich Cultural Council. She has also had solo exhibitions at the Hall-Haskell House Gallery in Ipswich and the Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute. Mary is a member of the Local Colors Arts Cooperative, where she maintains a display in the group’s gallery on Main St. in Gloucester. She is a founding board member of the Ipswich Art Association.
