I'm Still Here

By the window I feel so warm
The same heat- like beaches, picnics
Wish I could stay here longer.
Time moves so fast, now I am slow.

They speak so fast, rushing, moving.
Cavorting and laughing, -I did too.
But now they whirl past me.
Not knowing that once -I belonged to the race.

Chatter, annoying chatter I hear.
They act like l'm invisible.
Look away for a moment -I am still here !
I lived life the same way you do.

I close my eyes and feel more heat, I used to feel loves' passionate warmth.
The sun lit up my childhood games.
I hold memories in my heart now- only for me.

And still I am - a young mother, a teacher, a bride, a daughter, it's me!
I never stopped being them.
In my thoughts I still AM them.

Dreaming and talking, planning their days.
I have no need for plans.
I live in this moment alone.
I live within today.

You will be here someday and share this space.
I hope you will think of me then.
Youth is fleeting, for all.
You'll still be here but life won't look the same.

Don't call me honey, dear or mother.
I am not yours.
Respect me, look at the person I am inside.
So much more than what eyes can see
When you look at me - I'm still here.

Shut-In

What to make

Of a photograph

Of a man

Walking the

Avenue with

A dog on a leash In black and white?

We know

Nothing about him

Except he was

There then, in

That place in

That time, with

That dog on that

Avenue.

For an instant,

He was a shut-in,

And still is on

Photographic paper.
